Additionally, it helps perfectly in recovery after injury, surgery or long-term illness. This amino acid is involved in carbohydrate biosynthesis, fatty cell syntheses and protects liver cells from toxins.

Muscle cells are made up of at least 60 percent of the amino acids that are derived from glutamine. Intense exercise reduces the amount of glutamine in the blood to 20 percent, and its use increases almost five-fold. Back in the 1980s, studies found a link between the speed of protein synthesis and the level of glutamin in the body.

5. Glutamine and creatine

Glutamine and creatine combine to meet the fluid demands of muscle cells. When the muscles are unable to respond to the creatine supplied to the body, they remain sensitive to the absorption of glutamine. This means that taking glutamine in combination with creatine leads to the outer membrane of the muscle cell becoming soluble, which stimulates its growth.

6. How to use glutamine?

According to studies, you should take 4 to 8 grams of glutamine a day. Most of the human body is simply unable to digest it. The daily dose should be divided into two parts, the first to be taken during or shortly after exercise and the second before bedtime. The first dose will inhibit metabolic processes and trigger muscle growth. The second will promote the synthesis of growth hormone. On non-training days the first dose of glutamine should be taken at lunchtime.

7. Glutamine in food

Glutamine is found in large quantities in chicken, beef, fish, eggs, egg yolks, beans, cabbage, spinach and peaches, and in small amounts in fruit juices and miso, a product derived from the fermentation of soybeans.
