Which diet is healthiest?

In January 2021, the U.S. News Portal published a ranking of diets. 39 of the most popular diets were rated by experts. The Mediterranean diet came in first place. It was no surprise, because it had dominated the mix in previous years.

Table of Contents

1. How the ranking came about

The ranking evaluated 39 of the most popular diets. Assessments were made by experts in nutrition, nutritional psychology, as well as specialists in the treatment of diabetes and heart disease. Evaluations were made in several categories: ease of observation, effectiveness in short- and long-term weight loss, dietary completeness (or a diet that delivers all necessary nutrients in adequate quantities), safety and potency in the prevention of heart disease and diabetes and their treatment.

2. The current nutritional recommendations

In 2020, the latest nutritional standards were developed for the population of Poland. They specify how much energy and nutrients are needed to meet the nutritive needs of almost all healthy people in a given population. Applying these standards protects against diseases related to nutrient deficiency (e.g. osteoporosis, anemia), as well as their excessive intake (eg. Obesity, hypertension, hypervitaminosis).

3. Recommended daily intake of nutrients for adults

Female: about 2000 kcal Male: about 2600 kcal (3150 years, average physical activity).

4. The ketogenic diet

The lowest in the ranking, 39th place, is the ketogenic diet. Not much higher, 37th place is the slightly modified version of the diet, called the modified ketogenic Diet. It's not surprising that the Ketogenic Diet has a drastic reduction in carbohydrates in the diet and energy supply mainly from fat. It puts the body into a state of ketosis, the body breaks down into ketone bodies, both dietary fat and stored fat.

5. The Duncan Diet

The diet consists of four phases: phase I (seizure) lasts from 1 to 10 days, with a high protein intake while limiting carbohydrate and fat intake. The basis of the diet are meat (mainly lean beef, veal, poultry and pork), lean fish, fatty cows and egg proteins. The diet is made up of 4 phases. stage I (attack) ?? lasts 1 to 9 days, only protein products are allowed, vegetables, fruits, and fat products are prohibited; the final day of the phase II (stage II) of the diets this phase consists only of one day, but only one day to reach full body weight, and the final phase of the whole life cycle, the remaining phase of protein (protein and protein) is not consumed; however, during this phase, the rest of the day, the food is consumed, and during the third week, the amount of protein is stagnated.

6. It's a vegan diet

In its most restrictive form, it is a vegan diet that prohibits the heat treatment of products above 4048°C. The macronutrient distribution is based on the 80/10/10 rule. This means that energy comes from 80% carbohydrates, 10% protein and 10% fat.
