Vegetables that lower blood glucose levels

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease characterized by elevated blood glucose levels, or hyperglycemia. Treatment targets are to reduce blood sugar levels and prevent the development of chronic complications. In addition to lifestyle changes and pharmacotherapy, the hypoglycemic properties of plants are increasingly being used.

One of the most commonly used medicinal plants for the treatment of diabetes is morus alba, a compound belonging to the polysaccharide family. It improves the carbohydrate economy, lowers the percentage of glucose in the blood, and also affects its overall level. Hypoglycemic activity is possible mainly due to the presence of 1-deoxyriamycin (DNJ). This compound, which belongs to the glucocorticoid family, is found in the glucose counts. It reduces the concentration of glucoside in the liver, and affects the overall glucose level.

Many commonly known plants have glycemic-lowering properties. Hypoglycemic activity is due to the presence of bioactive compounds that have a beneficial effect on the glucose-insulin economy. These plants used in the form of steams, spices or extracts may aid in the treatment of diabetes. However, it should be remembered that the basis of therapy is to change dietary habits, increase physical activity and take medicines prescribed by a doctor.
