Treatment of joint damage

Nowadays, joint damage can be treated by either surgical treatment or conservative treatment, and the advantages of one technique over another have been studied extensively, so far it is difficult to determine which is more effective.

Table of Contents

1. Damage to the ligaments surgical treatment vs. behavioural treatment

This means that it is not clear whether reconstruction of the joint reduces the likelihood of deterioration in the long term. In addition, conservation therapy can be successfully used as a transitional period between the time when the injury occurs and the time of reconstruction. Some scientists believe that reconstruction is the most appropriate method of treatment, while others confirm the effectiveness of conservation treatment. Numerous studies have shown no significant differences in the proper functioning of people who have undergone reconstruction in comparison with those who have only undergone conservation surgery.

2. Links possibilities for reconstruction

There are several options for choosing the appropriate material for transplantation: the ligament of the right ribs, the muscles of the pelvis (the semicircular muscle), the allogenic transplant, synthetic materials. Therefore, taking into account the expectations and profile of the person undergoing reconstruction, it is the task of the surgeon to make the appropriate choice of the transplant that will best meet the patient's expectations. Surgical treatment consists of performing a surgical operation using arthroscopy. It is not clear which of these materials is best.

3. It's a conservative treatment for ligament damage

Exercise to increase muscle strength and range of motion are important elements in restoring joint function. The conservative treatment of acute joint injuries for the first 72 hours after the injury occurs is based on the P.R.I.C.E. Additionally, the biomechanics of the joint are disrupted as a result of the injury, so it is necessary to ensure proper orthotics of the injured joint to support the function of the damaged joint. Further treatment should include physiotherapy treatments such as cryotherapy to reduce the injury and pain.
