In recent years, there has been a significant increase in interest in healthy lifestyles. Newspapers, television and social media are constantly publishing news about the latest trends in healthy eating and revolutionary diets. Unfortunately, this is increasingly a problem with disinformation and the spread of myths that are not supported by any research or are supported by poorly designed research, such as the prohibition of mixing certain foods. In the meantime, it is very easy to lose sight of the basics of what is proper nutrition and physical activity.

1. The cucumber plus the tomato

It is also essential for proper absorption of iron. In addition, it is an enzyme rich in vitamin C (15 mg per 100 g), which has many important functions in the body, among others. It is involved in the fight against infection and wound healing, and in the production of collagen or certain hormones and neuroproteins. Tea with lemon is often a recommended beverage in case of a cold preferably with a honey additive. However, there are reports that such a compound may be harmful to health. In the case of tea, there is no denying the prevailing belief that it should not be mixed with yeast cake. Yeast is a fairly good source of vitamin B1, and the cups contained in the beverage can limit its absorption, which has actually been confirmed in studies several decades ago (T. Kositawattanakul et al., 1977). Therefore, the addition of kiwi will not cause the cutting of the gelatin and dessert will not succeed (M. Chalabi et al., 2014).

6. Alcohol + mushrooms

Mushrooms are a good source of riboflavin, niacin, potassium, phosphorus and magnesium. However, they contain protein chitin, which the human body is unable to digest, so a large amount of mushrooms can cause digestive problems such as nausea, diarrhea, bloating or vomiting. Drinking alcohol additionally disrupts digestion and can irritate the walls of the intestine and stomach, however, it may stimulate symptoms (C. Cerletti, S. Esposito, L. Iacoviello 2021).

7. Fish + cruciferous vegetables

Current recommendations are to consume at least 2 servings per week. However, it turns out that combining fish with cruciferous vegetables, such as kale, cabbage, maple or broccoli, can inhibit the absorption of iodine and cause seafood to no longer be a good source. The reason given is the presence of cross-nutritive substances goitrogen (W. Petroski, D. M. Minichogen 2020).

Garlic is a highly nutritious product. It contains many vitamins and minerals, but also spices. 9. Is there really anything to be afraid of?

If they eat a balanced diet based on healthy diets every day, the risk of developing deficiencies caused by e.g. combining cucumbers with tomatoes is minimal. It is important to focus on the diet as a whole rather than on the small, insignificant details. To avoid being exposed to too few nutrients, it is worth taking care of the variety in the diet.
