Unlike many other ways of eating, we don't get recommendations for a white diet in a dietary office or a doctor's office, but a dentist can suggest them.

1. The basics of the white diet

This means the abandonment of a large group of products including coloured beverages (coffee, tea, juices and syrups and alcohol, especially red wine), parts of fruit and vegetables, chocolate and spices (coconut, curry, cinnamon, red peppers). Own-sourced development (E. Rojek, et al.) As the name suggests, the white diet is based primarily on coloured products and excludes those with intense colour.

2. When to follow a white diet

This is a situation in which teeth become potentially more susceptible to other colours from the environment, so it is recommended to limit them by using a white diet. They differ in the way and place of action they do not contain the above chemicals, but wall substances that allow the mechanical removal of stains and colours. The use of these colouring preparations (with mechanical action) does not require the use of dietary restrictions. This procedure can also be performed for the first time only in connection with the treatment of patients who have been exposed to these chemicals in the dentist's laboratory or in the laboratory.

3. How long to follow a white diet

However, it is most often recommended to eat according to the principles of the white diet for 12 weeks, which is influenced by many factors, including the method of whitening, the preparation used and the duration of therapy (whitening at home usually takes longer).

4. Whether a white diet is healthy

In addition, the elimination of whole grains and many fruits and vegetables may lead to a lack of fibre, while the withdrawal of products of different colours leads to a reduction in the amount of healthy polyphenols supplied with food. However, from a nutritional point of view, the benefits of the white diet include eliminating processed, sweetened and red meat. Excesses in the diet cause it to be monotonous and difficult to use.

5. The directions

Before whitening, it is therefore important to take steps to maximise its intensity and, preferably, to eliminate it altogether. It is also important to seek out products rich in calcium (e.g. natural broth), as this ingredient plays an important role in the process of bone and tooth mineralization. During the period of tooth bleaching, toothpaste should have a clear colour; it should also be avoided to flush with a bright colour (blue, green, pink) and replaced with a colourless preparation.

6. The effectiveness of the white diet

A review published in 2015 collected the results of five studies to determine the need for a white diet during and shortly after teeth whitening. It was observed that drinking wine and dark fruit during teeth bleaching was not associated with impaired treatment effects, and that the effects of coffee and tea were statistically insignificant. Matis et al. 2015). However, the recommendation of a White Diet during and soon after teeth bleach is common practice in the dental office.
