The main antioxidants are polyphenols!

Polyphenols are one of a group of antioxidants that prevent oxidation processes in the body caused by the action of free radicals.

Table of Contents

1. What are polyphenols?

Polyphenols are organic compounds belonging to the group of phenols. The primary role of polyphenols in the body is to inhibit free radicals. Free radicals are molecules that react with other mammalian acids of the human body and cause inflammation of their tissues. Flavonoids, isoflavonoides, catechins, coumarines, quercetin, anthocyanins, lignans, lignines or by-products of the circulatory system.

2. The properties of polyphenols

Polyphenols inhibit the oxidizing enzymes lipoxygenases and cycloxygenase. An undoubted advantage of polyphenols is that they inhibit the formation of metallic ions. By doing so, they have anti-cancer activity. They remove free radicals from the surrounding genetic material and thus prevent its modifications (mutations). In addition, they prevent the growth of cancerous cells and destroy them. A clear advantage of Polyphenol is that it prevents the formation and formation of blood vessels. By reducing the activity of free oxygen in the blood, they also reduce the growth and development of inflammation in the skin. By limiting the production of cyclosporin and other anti-inflammatory proteins, they enhance the development of the immune system.

3. It's a performance

Polyphenols are found in the greatest quantities in plants. In the case of fruits which can be considered as their primary source, they include aronia, black beans, peaches, cherries, wild roses, pomegranates, grapefruit, apples, berries (i.e. blueberries, barley, raspberries, strawberries), oranges, straws, grapes and cherries.

4. Opinion of the European Parliament and of the Council

The effectiveness of polyphenols is confirmed by the work of researchers from the University of Silesia Medical University in Katowice. Researchers presented the results of numerous studies in 2013 that prove the anti-health properties of these compounds. In vitro studies conducted on rat pancreas cells showed that epicatechin contributes to increased insulin production and secretion. In another study, it was shown that daidein reduces glucose absorption and that genes reduce insulin proportions in postmenopausal women. A study on the effects of polyphenol on cardiovascular disease has confirmed that compounds such as daidex accelerate the regulation of glucose and lower the blood pressure, and that they reduce LDL-grade blood fractions.
