What is ackee and saltfish? How is that possible? Only on this unique island does the national dish (and at the same time the most popular breakfast dish) consist of potentially poisonous West African fruit and salted North Atlantic fish.

1. A general feature of Jamaican cuisine

Jamaica became a Spanish colony, and a hundred years later it passed into the hands of the British. The vast majority of the plants now grown in Jamaica were imported from other countries. From West Africa in the 18th century, the English fruit ackee arrived in Jamaica. Popular on the island are also the green bananas and platinum. Another characteristic product is the brewery itself. The Jamaican equivalent of the potato can also be called anallaloo with its green leaf flavor, similar to the flavor of potato sauce, which is a hot sauce composed of grated potatoes and potato chips, and the fruit of a potato tree. It is now widely used in Turkish and Turkish cuisine, as well as in Japanese cuisine.

2. Salted with cabbage

It is a very fast and easy dish especially enjoyed by Jamaicans. The ground cabbage is added to the grilled sausage and onion, and then cooked over a free fire to become soft. Salted cabbage dough is eaten for breakfast or lunch with the same additives as ackee with salted dough. The dish is seasoned with pepper, garlic and thyme.

Jamaicans eat these peppers for breakfast, especially on weekends. Meat (poultry, beef, pork), shrimp, soybeans, or vegetables are used as fodder.

7. Drinks for breakfast

In addition to black tea, tea known as bush tea is very popular among Jamaicans. Sometimes for breakfast, and often during the day, a sorrel is a refreshing drink made from hibiscus flower, lemon and ginger. It is sweetened with sugar. This tradition dates back to the times when Jamaica was a British colony.
