Chia seeds were already used by the Aztecs and the Mayans. They were an extremely valuable ingredient in their diet because consuming this product allowed them to work long hours, and eating one tablespoon gave them strength for even 24 hours of marching! Moreover, these seeds are a valuable addition to the diet because of their high nutritional value and omega-3 content.

1. Chia seeds are characteristic of Spanish lettuce

Chia is a species of flowering plant in the sunflower family known by the common name Spanish chia, which grows up to a meter in height and has oval seeds up to 1.52, 5 mm in size, white, brown, gray, or black. It is native to central and southern Mexico and Guatemala. The word chia is derived from the Nahuatl word chian, meaning oilseed.

3. Use and health effects of chia seeds

Chia seeds can be used to prevent a number of diseases, including cardiovascular disease, cancer, and depression. Omega-3 fatty acids in chia seeds have a beneficial effect on the heart and blood vessels. They lower the levels of so-called bad LDL cholesterol and triglycerides, and they increase HDL cholesterol. Similarly, chia seed has a nutritional fiber effect on Spanish pulp seeds. It also prevents the formation of pulp, which increases the likelihood of developing pulp.

4. Seeds of chia contraindications

Do not exceed the recommended doses because high amounts of fiber can impair the absorption of many nutrients. Chia seeds can affect the action of cardiovascular and anti-diabetic medicines. People taking this type of preparation should consult their doctor before adding Spanish sage to their diet. Chia is also not recommended for the elderly, post-treatment, children, pregnant and breastfeeding women because it causes blood clots.

5. How to use chia seeds?

Chia seeds can be used to bake cakes, breads, pastries, or as a substitute for pies. It consists of two tablespoons of seeds and 250300 ml of non-carbonated mineral water and lemon juice. It is also produced as a thickener for soups and sauces. Chia seed can be added to jams, vegetables, yogurts, salads, and other preparations, whether hot or cold. In Central American countries, chia fresca is a very popular drink.

6. Storage

Due to their high antioxidant content, chia seeds should be stored in a dry, cold and dark place. They have a shelf life of up to four years without deterioration in taste, smell and nutritional value. They should be kept in a tightly sealed bag or container.
