Root spices how to use them in the kitchen

Spices are used as a flavoring additive, as well as a coloring and scenting ingredient. Many spices have health-promoting properties and can also be used to treat many diseases. The valuable properties of spices are known and used since 5000 B.C.E. It's worth using the findings of our ancestors and using them in our daily diet, but how do we do that?

1. Spices are what they are, division

Spices are various parts of plants most commonly used are roots (e.g. ginger), buds (eg turmeric), flowers (eg fungi), leaves (eg. lemon grass), seeds (eg cardamom) or pieces of bark (eg., cinnamon). Spices used are in small quantities and such doses can already have a beneficial effect on health. However, there are contraindications to the use of specific spices in certain disease units and it is important to observe them in order not to worsen self-pollination.

2. The properties of the root spices

Spices are a valuable source of vitamins and minerals such as calcium, iron, potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, vitamin C, and beta-carotene.

This spice has anti-inflammatory properties and is therefore recommended for rheumatoid arthritis (RAS). It has contractile, bloating and excessive fermentation in the intestines. It is resistant to bacteria and fungi (J. K. Patra et al. 2020).

4. Cinnamon

Cinnamon has anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic, anticancer and anti-bacterial properties. It has a beneficial effect on the health of diabetics, people with Alzheimer's disease and asthma (M. Hariri, R. Ghiasvand 2016).

Glands have anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties and are therefore recommended in diseases of the gums and teeth, e.g. paradox. Glands should be applied to the tooth to reduce pain. This is due to eugenol, an oil that is found in glands and has an anaesthetic and antibacterial properties (U. Skolimowska et al. 2012). Additionally, glands speed up digestion and stimulate appetite.

6. Ginger

Ginger is known as a spice, it comes in the form of a fresh or dried ginger. It is also used to prevent nausea and vomiting in pregnant women. For the same reasons, ginger is used by people with locomotive disease and during therapy (J. Newerli-Guz, M. Pych 2012). It shows body-boosting, anti-inflammatory and anti-yellowing effects. Additionally, it is used in the treatment of hypertension, cataracts, constipation, nervous system disorders and arthritis.

Vanilla is used in the form of vanilla flakes, vanilla sugar, oils and powder. In confectionery, it is a popular additive to cakes, cookies, creams, ice cream, chocolates, and liqueurs. It is helpful in treating fever and indigestion (B. Ahmad et al., 2015). It is a powerful antioxidant and has antimicrobial effects (B. C. Tan, C. F. China 2015).

8. Cucumbers and other edible mushrooms

Turmeric is a herbal spice with a warming effect. The ingredient of turmeric, curcumin, has anti-cancer effects (B. Sung et al. 2012). It also supports liver function, acts jaundice, has a beneficial effect on lipid and glucose economy. It is also used in the treatment of psoriasis, cardiovascular diseases and inflammatory bowel diseases (B. Kulczyński, A. Gramza-Michałowska 2016). In people with rheumatoid arthritis it has reduced inflammation, edema of the joints and promoted their functioning.

9. Contraindications for the use of root spices

It should be noted that the use of spices can be hazardous to health. People with celiac disease should read product labels carefully and purchase certified spices with a cross-sectional badge. Spices and other products that may be a source of gluten are often processed in the same factory. People who are allergic to salicylates should beware of a number of condiments that will be sources of salicylic acid. They should include: cinnamon, chicken, lime, curry blend and garam masala (P. Kęszycka, D. Gajewska 2015).

10. Rules for the use of root spices

Root spices are an interesting additive to the taste and aroma of vegetable, meat, and dairy products, and they have anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antifungal properties that support the proper functioning of the body and are an important part of the prevention and treatment of many diseases.

11. Rice topped with apples and cinnamon

Ingredients: 1⁄2 bag or 1⁄2 cup of parboiled rice, a large apple, a few dried cranberry fruits, 1⁄2 packs of skyr yogurt, 1 teaspoon of butter, spices: cinnamon, cardamom. How to prepare: Cook the rice according to the instructions on the packaging, then mix with butter. Cut the apples into cubes and soak them with the addition of cranberries and cinnamon until they are soft. If necessary, gently soak a small amount of water.

12. Cream of pumpkin with ginger

Ingredients: 250 g of pumpkin, 1⁄2 onion, ?? 100 g of coconut milk,?? 1 teaspoon of olive oil,?? ginger (piece of 3 cm), chili pepper (quantity as desired) spices: salt, pepper.

13. Root tea with nails, anise and cinnamon

Ingredients: a cup of your favorite tea, 3 cups of cinnamon; some cinnamon, a few raspberries; ?? a lemon patch, an orange patch and a grapefruit patch. How to prepare the tea according to the instructions on the packaging.

14. Yellow goose with lentils and turmeric

Ingredients: 1⁄3 cups of red lentils, 1⁄2 bag or 1⁄2 cup of parboiled rice, ?? 1⁄2 cans of tomatoes,?? pepper, ¢ onion, ¥ 100 g of coconut milk, ‡ spices: turmeric, coriander, chili, cinnamon spices. How to prepare: Cook the rice according to the packaging instructions.
