Oxygen therapy effects, indications, benefits

Oxygen therapy, which is often recommended for people who are sick, also has positive implications for the prevention and support of healthy people. Can oxygen therapy be done at home? There is no doubt that oxygen is an essential element for humans. What are the benefits of oxygen therapy? Who can benefit from it? One of the basic components of air is also a therapeutic factor.

In normobaric oxygen therapy, the air pressure supplied is up to 1500 hPa. Normobaric is a specific type of oxygen therapy in which a special mixture of air is used. Treatments are carried out in specially designed rooms, the duration of a single session is not limited. While in normal therapy the oxygen concentration is about 90%, in this case it is about 40%, and inhaled air contains up to 3% carbon dioxide and 0.5% hydrogen.

2. Is this even an oxygen therapy device that's worth using?

In particular, oxygen bottles require regular replacement after use. This means that concentrators work virtually everywhere and, unlike a bottle, they do not cause any problems, including for the elderly or those living alone. In addition, there is usually a need to involve an experienced person, such as an environmental nurse. These are extremely simple and convenient in-vitro devices, which are largely automated. This implies that the concentrator works virtually anywhere, but unlike the bottle does not cause oxygen to be used. Furthermore, there are no explosive hazards.

3. Oxygen therapy action and effects

Improving gasometry means better oxygenation of cells, tissues and internal organs, which translates into a number of beneficial effects, such as: strengthening immunity, relieving inflammatory changes, improving cardiovascular performance, controlling free oxygen sources, reducing stress, improving the quality of sleep, improved mood, enhancing skin microcirculation and helping to heal wounds, maintaining the rate of blood transfusion, which can lead to improvements in test results such as the normalisation of glucose or high oxygen levels.

4. When not to administer oxygen?

In addition, oxygen therapy is not recommended when taking certain medicines (e. g. bleomycin, disulfiram) but particular caution should be exercised when treating with oxygen in pregnant women, people with a heart thinner implant, diagnosed with cancer, with confirmed optic nerve inflammation, or with an increased risk of stroke (i. e. due to medicines or diagnosed epilepsy). However, staying in a closed or oxygen chamber can lead to increased anxiety.
