As much as 40.6% is composed of alpha-linolenic acid. Due to this property, it is the second largest fat in the world (first place is flax oil). The effectiveness of castor oil was demonstrated primarily in a 2002 scientific paper which observed the effect of consuming 30 g of vegetable oil on plasma lipoprotein concentration in hyperlipidemia patients. The study lasted six weeks and the results confirmed a decrease in the LDL fraction regardless of the type of fat used. However, it is worth noting that the greatest reduction was observed in those who consumed flax fat (12.2%), which was better than olive oil (7.7%) and maple oil (5.4%).
