Non-sugar beverages with beverage type zero

Zero-calorie beverages are products that do not contain sugar in the form of sucrose (called white sugar). They are usually also products described as low in calories or containing zero calories.

1. Characteristics of sugar substitutes

Substances known as sugar substitutes are commonly referred to as sweeteners. These compounds have a very sweet taste (usually much sweeter than sucrose) and are therefore used in small quantities. Among the compounds substituting for white sugar, three groups can be distinguished: natural, semi-synthetic and synthetic sweetener.

2. It's natural sweets

This is a group of compounds derived from plants. Among the most popular are stevia glycosides, glycyrins and taumatins. However, stevia leaves contain more than 30 different glycosids, the most important of which is stevia. It is a plant from the family of astrocytes, commonly referred to as the sweet herb of Paraguay (due to its area of origin) or the honey leaf, as these are the parts of the plant that contain the sweet-smelling compounds.

3. Semi-synthetic sweets

It is used as a sweetener, but it also acts as a so-called "sugar repellent". Because of its chemical structure, it is more slowly absorbed by the body, so it does not cause a sudden increase in blood glucose, but can cause diarrhea. However, it can also be produced by artificial synthesis. It is also used as an anti-inflammatory agent (a single dose of 25 40 ). Its sweetness is comparable to that of fertilizer, and therefore its sweetness resembles that of natural sugar in the form of starch.

4. Synthetic sweets

Unlike natural and semi-synthetic sweeteners, they are not found in nature. They are chemically produced substances, which makes their use the most controversial and questionable. Among the most commonly used artificial sugar substitutes are aspartame, aesulfame K, neotame, sucralose, and sucralis. Aspartame is a sweetener widely used in soft drinks with the number E951. However, it is 200 times sweeter than sugar, which does not provide additional kilokalori. Numerous studies have been conducted to evaluate the effects of this compound on human body fat metabolism (N. cardamolism may not be used in the manufacture of methanol, but it can also be used as a solvent.

5. Is that what sweets are in sugar-free drinks?

The most popular sweeteners used in non-alcoholic beverages include synthetic sweets most commonly aspartame and acesulfame K. Due to the cost of production, semi-synthetic and natural sweets are rarely used. However, you can find drinks with the addition of stevia, xylitol or erythritol. They are more expensive but at the same time healthier alternatives.

6. Sugar-free drinks and health

The effect of sugar substitutes on the human body has been a topic of interest to scientists for many years. There are different reports, so opinions are divided. Some say that the use of sweets reduces the number of calories delivered, which is important for obesity and metabolic diseases.

7. Obesity, you know

Despite the calorie restrictions provided by white sugar, there is a link between the consumption of beverages with added artificial sweeteners and weight gain. Based on observations of 1,454 people from 1984 to 2012, researchers who consumed artificially sweetened drinks had a significantly higher BMI and waist circumference compared to those who did not consume such products (Ch. W. Chia et al., 2016). A meta-analysis involving 11 studies also showed a higher risk of obesity in those with reduced body weight (D. Rpenguan et al. 2017).

9. The intestinal microflora

The normal state of the gut microflora is closely related to the health and functioning of the body. Disruption of the bacterial composition of the intestines contributes to the development of many diseases, including obesity, diabetes, rheumatoid, autoimmune diseases, and mood disorders. Drinks with the addition of xylitol have a beneficial effect on the nutrition of so-called good bacteria, whereas artificial sugar substitutes have the opposite effect. 6 synthetic sweeteners used in the food industry have been studied.

10. Summary

Proper hydration is a key element in maintaining well-being and the proper functioning of the body. Among the basic principles of a healthy diet, drinking water is mentioned. It is also recommended to limit the consumption of sweet drinks. Given the latest reports, artificial sugar substitutes are not beneficial for health, so products with added synthetic sweeteners should also be eliminated.
