Mutation of the MTHFR gene What it is and how it affects your health

Some of them, such as folic acid and vitamin B12, can be affected by quitting smoking or regular physical activity. This can be caused by a mutation in the MTHFR gene, which is involved in the metabolism of folic acids needed to regenerate from homocysteine harmless to methionine.

1. Folic acid plays a role in the body and as a source

It can also be found in some animal products such as pickles, eggs, cabbage, spinach, lettuce or soft maturing cheeses (e.g. Camembert). It is involved in the metabolism of nucleic acids and amino acids. Its correct amount prevents the formation of neural tube defects in the fetus and some cancers. Shulpekova et al. 2021). Its main sources are salads, broccoli, cabbages, snails, salads or spaghetti, but also leafy vegetables, yeasts and cereal products. Its acidic acid plays several functions in the body. It is essential for the growth and function of the body, especially for the methylated and nerve process, and is also important in reducing the amount of phosphate in the blood, which is produced by the red blood cell phosphatidylserine, which increases the rate of methylamine mutation, which occurs in the retinal fluid.

2. Adverse effects of folian deficiency associated with the MTHFR gene mutation

In healthy people, it is activated in the body, whereas in the case of MTHFR gene polymorphism, there is disrupted activation of folic acid, which unfortunately may be associated with the development of neural tube defects in the uterus (an inherited disease characterized by an increased inclination to develop clots). Undas et al. 2019). In healthy individuals, it becomes activated, while in the cases of the MTHF gene polymerase is associated with impaired activation, but unfortunately this may be linked to the development in the fetal nerve cell defects and thrombophilia of the unborn child.

3. Reducing risk through diet

In order to provide folic acid in the best digestible form, the sources of choline are primarily fresh fruit and vegetables. In this case, however, various types of juices and cocktails will work well. Betaine is found in rice compote, cereal flakes, rice, cassava, spinach, potatoes, beef, veal, turmeric or shrimp breast, and in turn, fresh fruits and vegetable juices are needed. However, in some products there is synthetic acid present, so the body is not in a position to convert the active ingredient into an organic compound.

4. What about other than dieting?

Sleep deprivation can lead to impaired cognitive function and immunity, as well as to the long-term development of many diseases, including type 2 diabetes, obesity, metabolic disorders, depression, or hypertension (S.C. Aung 2021). It helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, for which people with the MTHFR gene mutation are most at risk. Interestingly, however, even people who are exposed to tobacco smoke while not smoking themselves are at risk of this phenomenon, which shows the level of stress that cigarette smoking itself causes.
