Lactose intolerance is an increasingly diagnosed gastrointestinal disorder in children and adults worldwide. Each organism is different, there are different thresholds for lactose intolerances. One person may be harmed by a minimum amount in food and another only by an increased one-off supply.

1. What is lactose intolerance and what are its symptoms?

Food intolerance is an abnormal reaction of the body to a food ingredient, also called milk sugar, a carbohydrate found mainly in milk and milk products or in a reduced quantity. Symptoms of lactose occur very quickly after consumption, within a few minutes. In this reaction the immune system is not involved, symptoms occur from the digestive tract. Inflammation is also called dairy sugar, the carboxylic acid mainly found in dairy milk and dairy products. The lactose content in females is much higher than that in other mammals.

2. Diagnosis of lactose intolerance

Diagnosis of lactose intolerance includes: medical and nutritional interviews, genetic tests, ?? hydrogen respiratory tests, hydrogen-methane respiratory testing, biopsy, elimination and provocation tests. Most commonly used is a hydrogen breathing test, which consists of taking 50 g lactose from 250 ml of water and then examining the level of hydrogen in the exhaled air. When the lactose is injected into the large intestine, the bacteria metabolize it and produce hydrogen, which is then inhaled. Everything is done under sterile laboratory fuel extraction conditions.

3. Diet for lactose intolerance

The treatment of lactose intolerance is focused on reducing the amount or total elimination of dairy products in the dairy diet with a lower intake of milk products, however, if the indication of a family containing lactose is taken into account depending on the nature of the intake and the activity of the enzyme. However, the treatment often includes the supply of the lactose enzyme, through which the milk supplied with the diet is properly absorbed. In the case of people with a secondary milk intake that includes less milk products with a reduced intake, the regulation of the amount of milk that contains lactose to the body is indicated until the recovery of the indicated milk product with a higher intake value.

4. The main nutritional rules for lactose intolerance (hypolactasia):

1. consuming milk and milk products in small portions, preferably for meals. 2. choosing whole milk instead of skimmed milk. 3. consuming lactose-free milk and dairy products. 4. consuming yogurt with live cultures of bacteria. 5. replacing milk with mature cheeses and moulds. 6. using preparations containing lactase.
