Elimination diets are becoming increasingly popular year after year, and the goal of their use is to lose unnecessary pounds, but is it enough to exclude an ingredient from your daily diet to make the extra pounds disappear?

1. The ketogenic diet is the premise

One of the most controversial elimination diets is the ketogenic diet high-fat and low-carbohydrate diet. Hunger food was already used as a therapeutic remedy for epilepsy in the time of Hippocrates. Since it could not be used for too long in the 1920s, Dr. Wilder and Dr. Woodyatt of the Mayo Clinic themselves developed a Ketogenic diet that consists of providing a minimum number of calories from carbohydrates and supplementing energy from body fats and proteins.

2. Ketogenic diet Recommended and contraindicated products

The ketogenic diet is rich in products that provide large amounts of both saturated and unsaturated fats. Ketogenic dieters are advised, for example, to use cream that contains 36% fat instead of 12% fat.

3. Recommended products in the ketogenic diet:

sources of fat: vegetable oils, e.g. flaxseed, rapeseed, sunflower, coconut, mayonnaise, cream (the higher the fat content, the better), butter, butter, avocado, nuts, pulses, kidneys, almonds, pumpkin seeds, flax seed, chia seeds and olives; source of protein: pork, beef, wild boar, lamb, chicken, fish, seafood, eggs; sources of carbohydrates: strawberries and vegetables must contain a minimum amount of boric acid in berries, such as cabbage, pomegranates, peppers, oranges, sugar beans, peppercorns, beans;

4. Products contraindicated in the ketogenic diet:

cereal preparations cassava, rice, pasta, baking powder, flour, cereal flakes; starch vegetables potatoes, carrots, beans; ?? pulses lentils, celery, peas and beans, fruits bananas, grapes, pineapples, blueberries, sugar sources sweets, cakes, pastries, chocolate, carbonated beverages, juices and sugar cane.

5. The ketogenic diet is the process of ketosis

High fat intake with a minimum amount of carbohydrates leads to a blockage of the oxidation of fatty acids, resulting in the formation of ketone bodies, e.g. acetone, acetooctane, beta-hydroxymalanes. Ketone formation leads to ketone acid, which is common in people with diabetes mellitus.

6. Ketogenic diet indications and contraindications for use

In some cases, the use of ketogenic diet is justified. However, in the case of Alzheimer's disease, early Parkinson' s disease, autism and some types of epilepsy, it should be used closely. The ketogenic Diet is used in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. The recommendations for its use are ketogenic headache in children, born with metabolic defects, Retta syndrome, Doose syndrome, Dravet syndrome, and gout asthma.

7. For example, the benefits of a ketogenic diet:

decreased hunger increased fat intake affects hormones (e. g. cholecystokinin) that weaken the peristalsis of the intestines (the movement of food content) and inhibit hunger, suppressed appetite ketone bodies produced affect the central nervous system (and, more specifically, the center of satiety in the brain), improve tissue sensitivity to insulin, decrease the number of seizures.

8. Examples of deficiencies of the ketogenic diet:

Possible adverse effects on the gut microbiota Reduction of the number of Bifidobacterium bacteria that protect the body from inflammation and infectious agents, and increase of unfavorable Bacteroides bacteria, possible inflammation of the gut mucosa and gastrointestinal, hormonal disorders potential risk of cardiovascular disease, e.g. diarrhoea, coronary disease, heart attack or stroke (primarily due to self-regulating fatty acids and cholesterol fractions), if it is possible to use a diet that is deteriorating and irritating, reduce your dietary intake and intake of calories. If you choose a healthy diet, you should check with a doctor, for example, if you need to maintain a good diet, and if you want to reduce your calorie intake.
