What information does it convey? For several years now, there have been products on Polish store shelves with a colour scale and a highlighted element on it. Is it necessary to use it?

1. Nutri-Score is the definition

It is designed to make it easier for consumers to make informed food choices by providing information on the nutritional quality of products. In addition, the system uses colour labels ranging gradually from dark green (group A, i.e. products with the highest quality of nutrition) to orange (groups C, medium quality products) to red (grupo E, lowest quality products). The system is based on the award of points in two categories: the presence of the ingredients considered to be beneficial: 1) fiber, 2) protein and 3) vegetables, vegetable fibres, orange or vegetable oils in each aspect of the product from point A to point C. The sum of points is awarded from point 0 to point A and from points A to points B. In each of the following categories, the value of the products used in the system is calculated on a scale from 0 to 100 mL. In the following cases, the use of non-nutritional products is also considered to have an adverse effect: (a) (b) and (c) in the following areas of the analysis:

2. Nutri-Score has its advantages

Its interpretation does not require extensive knowledge of nutrients and data analysis, making it an alternative to the nutritional value tables found on the back of the packaging, which are difficult for many consumers to read. Among the benefits of Nutri-Score is its placement on the front of the package It is easier to notice since it does not have to be taken off the shelf.

3. Nutri-Score defects

They do not take into account, inter alia, the content of vitamins and minerals, the degree of processing, or the presence of food additives such as colours or preservatives. For example, fruit juices may be a vitamin source, but due to their high sugar content (naturally derived from fruit) they are rated better than non-nutritive beverages. These factors may lead to the selection of a food with a low nutritional value, such as dyes or preservative. It is also possible to recognize that the labelling of drinks with less than zero nutritive value on the scale of the two categories of beverage products that can be consumed with sugar (natural sugar) and sugar (non-nutrient sugar) in the future is a better way to evaluate the situation, so it is not possible to make a significant improvement in the interpretation of the Nutrient system (e.g. Nutrients, which can be used for the purpose of reducing the consumption of sugar or sugar) that can lead to a significantly higher percentage of sugar (b) than the number of sugar products consumed in the nutrient

4. In addition, the Commission shall adopt delegated acts in accordance with the opinion of the European Parliament and of the Council

The colour of the label is neutral. The Warning Symbol is displayed on products in which the content of an unhealthy ingredient exceeds the limit set by the Chilean Ministry of Health (the label comes from this country). Reference Intakes presents data on nutrient content (kilocalories, fats, saturated fat, salts and simple sugars) in numerical form and shows the extent to which they achieve the Community Reference Value (RWS).

5. Nutri-Score effectiveness

The survey was conducted in 12 countries, including Australia, Canada, Mexico, Singapore, and the United States. However, it was observed that the placement of any label on the packaging was initially associated with an improvement in the evaluation of packaging, and respondents were asked to arrange them in order from highest to lowest nutritional quality. The poll was conducted across 12 countries including Australia and Canada and Mexico, as well as in Singapore and the U.S. It was noted, however, that the inclusion of any labelling on the package was associated with improved evaluation by the survey; however, Nutri-Score Healthcare made it easier for participants to improve the production of products in accordance with the quality of nutrition (e.g. using the same product as the branded products in Australia, Australia, Mexico and Singapore), and that it was also easy to note that the results of the survey were not available to consumers in the same way as the two categories of products that were launched in 2021 (i.e. in the United Kingdom, Poland, France, Italy, Germany, France and Italy). However, the results from the survey (i).
