1. What's whiskey?

Whiskey is nothing more than a high-percent alcohol, which achieves a maximum distillation of ethanol. Initially, whisky production resembles a bit of beer production. Grain fermentation is necessary. Most commonly, barley is used to produce whisky, but we can also find whisky made from wheat, rye and maize. The fermentation process is distilled and then ripened in oak barrels, which is somewhat associated with wine ripening. Whiskey, in order to be ready for Polish consumption, must lie in barrels of about three years.

2. The nutritional value

There are several types of whiskey available on the market, e.g. We can find blended whiskey, which is the most commonly sold. It is a blend of whisky made only from barley and whiskey made from other grains, i.e. wheat, barley, corn. The number of calories supplied with whiskey depends largely on the type. 100 ml of whisky provides about 149 kcal, 13 g of carbohydrates and trace amounts of other nutrients, including vitamins and minerals.

3. Alcohol consumption is permitted

It is important to realize that there is no such thing as safe alcohol consumption. The European Cardiological Society (ECSC) in a 2016 paper. The Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Guidelines in Clinical Practice stated that drinking three or more servings of alcoholic beverages is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, but drinking them in a moderate amount one/two portions is linked to a lower risk of these diseases.

4. The effects of excessive alcohol consumption

When we consume alcoholic beverages, especially those with high percentages, which include whiskey, we should keep in mind that they can have a detrimental effect on the body.

5. Alcohol and sports

Alcohol consumption can have a negative impact on the quality of training, which is why it is particularly important to limit it before competitions. Why is this so? Alcohol use can negatively affect recovery after training. Alcohol affects the slowing of glycogen resynthesis and the decrease of muscle protein synthesis, reduces the concentration of anabolic hormones, and also shows diuretic activity, which also leads to poor hydration of the body.
