How many calories does orange juice have?

The manufacturers of soft drinks describe them as the perfect way to refresh themselves with pleasure. In their descriptions of these types of products, they often see information about their high quality or the content of additional ingredients, such as orange juice. Is it worth reaching for them?

1. It's got an orange soda in it

The list of ingredients on the label of an example of a carbonated orange drink is as follows: water, sugar, orange juice (5%) from concentrated juice, carbon dioxide, natural orange flavor with other natural flavours, citric acid, antioxidant: ascorbic acid, stabilizer: guar, bar: carotenes. The additives in this drink are of natural origin. Ascorbic (E300) is otherwise known as vitamin C. However, in industry it is used as an antioxidant.

2. The nutritional value

A carbonated orange drink contains a very high amount of sugar. There are about 5 teaspoons of this substance in a glass. The drink also provides a lot of energy but has no nutritional value. The amount of orange juice is small.

3. Drinking sugary soda and gaining weight

According to data from the Central Statistical Office in 2017, about 53% of people over 15 years of age suffer from being overweight and obese. High intake of carbonated drinks is a source of a significant number of kilocalories, which in the long run can lead to weight gain and associated diseases. Regular, daily drinking of an orange carbonated beverage can result in weight gain of 5.2 kg per year.

4. Guar (E412) rubber has health benefits

Guar gum is a naturally occurring plant substance in the digestive fiber fraction of food. It is used in the food industry to thicken the product. It has a positive effect on the carbohydrate economy and helps to reduce blood cholesterol.
