How many calories does kebab have?

Kebab is an original Turkish dish consisting of meat, vegetable salads, sauces and baked goods. This dish has won the hearts of Poles because of its taste and good price to quantity ratio. Unfortunately, this is often done at the expense of the quality of the ingredients used.

Table of Contents

1. The nutritional value

Kebab is a diverse food, so it provides both protein, fat, and carbohydrates. The kilocalorie content in 100 g may not be among the highest (compared to 100 g of walnuts is 666 kcal), but it should be remembered that it is consumed in terms of art, not grammar. It should therefore be assumed that one kebab has almost 900 kcal!

2. It's the soup

Almost every ingredient in kebab contains salt, which increases the risk of excessive sodium intake. This natural preservative is found in both meat and bread and sauces. It emphasizes the taste and prolongs the shelf life. Kebab is a real soda bomb. Unfortunately, excess of this element increases your risk of high blood pressure, stroke, heart attack and obesity. It has also been shown to contribute to the development of tumors (stomach cancer).

3. It's the fat

This Turkish dish contains a lot of fat (over 40%), which can have a negative effect on the body. Because meat is included in kebabs, it is abundant in saturated fractions of fatty acids. Additionally, the sauce contains oils, such as palm oil, which is considered one of the least healthy.

4. Highly processed meat

The basic ingredients of kebab are lamb, beef or chicken. However, it should be emphasized that in most cases they are mixtures of the worst quality meat, in addition to pre-processed meat, which are heated on the spot. They contain a lot of salt and saturated fats. They are often found in flavor enhancers and preservatives. In a study published in Revue Scientifique et Technique in 2018.

5. A healthy alternative

Vegetarian and vegan versions of kebabs have also appeared on the market. They are full of vegetables, and the protein is supplied in the form of coffins or cakes from pulses or mushrooms. Such foods can be considered a good source of vitamins and necessary elements provided that other additives are also of good quality.

6. A little practice

There is no need to count on the healthy and full nutritional value of kebabs from a nearby stall for PLN 20. Keep in mind that the owners of such restaurants are geared towards mass sales at the lowest possible cost. It is therefore worth taking some free time and preparing similar dishes yourself. At this price you can make kebab with chicken and fresh vegetables wrapped in a whole grain tortilla and feed it with yogurt and garlic sauce.
