Beer is a beverage produced by the fermentation of cereals, containing an average of 58% alcohol. It consists mainly of water (91%), a smaller part of leaven, sweetness and yeast. New flavors of beer are appearing on the market, so it is possible to find additional sugar and flavours in the composition. The basic criterion for brewing beer is the type of yeast used: lager low fermentation, but high fermentation. In addition, the classification is influenced by the type used (salt, barley, caramel or burnt), salt and flavourings.

2. Free calories

100 g of beer contains about.. 50 kcal. So it can be assumed that it is not a low-calorie product. But is it for sure? It must be borne in mind that beers are sold in 0.5 litre bottles. Caloricity is mainly influenced by carbohydrates and alcohol, with a lack of valuable protein and fat. If we choose flavored beers, we have to expect an increase in calorie content in such a product.

3. The nutritional value

It is a source of vitamins B2, B3 and B6, which are involved in many metabolic pathways and have an effect on the production of amino acids, e.g. tryptophan. Nutritional value per 100 g of product: Caloricity: 49 kcal, Protein: 0.5 g; Fats: 0 g;

4. What's the best beer?

Beer contains a certain amount of vitamins and minerals, but it should be remembered that the pasteurization process destroys nutrients in addition to microbes, so a better choice would be to go for unfiltered and unpasteurized beer.

5. It affects the body

Beer has calming and sleep-promoting properties. A 2018 study found that moderate consumption of wine and beer may contribute to increased levels of healthy HDL cholesterol and adiponectin, which have anti-inflammatory, anti-hypertensive and insulin-sensitive effects. Beer is urogenic and also stimulates digestion and appetite. Bacteriological and blood pressure-lowering effects have been confirmed. Beer with small amounts of B vitamins can have beneficial effects on brain, nervous system and hormonal function.

6. Negative effects of drinking beer

It must not be forgotten that beer can have a negative effect on the human body. Its glycemic index is 110, which contributes to a sharp increase in blood sugar. It is very dangerous especially for diabetics. Frequent consumption of beer causes the pancreas to secrete insulin (to lower blood glucose levels), which can increase the risk of type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance. In addition, it is severely restricted in people with low blood sugar. it contains purines that pass into the uric acid.

7. Attention to gluten

Beer, as mentioned above, is mainly made from wheat and barley. It is therefore not recommended that people with celiac disease, gluten sensitivity or gluten allergy and wheat consume this strain. Cider can be a safe substitute for them.

8. Applications

Beer in the kitchen can be used to make sauces or to marinate (e.g. chicken).
