Food in Crohn's disease

Diet is an extremely important aspect in the treatment of diseases of the digestive system, including Crohn's disease, but is there a nutritional model that can help treat this particular disease?

1. Crohn' s disease general information

As these symptoms are not characteristic, diagnosis is usually made late, usually between 16 and 25 years of age, but there are cases of subsequent illness. One of the less invasive markers is the level of calprotectin in the intestine. Its increased amount may indicate inflammation and ulcers in the gut. Since the symptoms are uncharacteristic, the diagnosis is typically late, which can lead to serious complications.

2. Crohn's disease is a cure

The most popular medicines used in Crohn's disease include TNF inhibitors, thiopurine and methotrexate (Sulz et al. 2020). Its choice is influenced by the number of symptoms, age, the presence of co-existing diseases, the effectiveness of the current treatment, the existence of complications, as well as smoking, as this is a factor that significantly increases the course of Crohn's disease. However, in many cases, inadequate pharmacotherapy requires a number of treatments. As far as therapeutic guidelines for treatment in this unit are concerned, there are several therapies that raise high hopes.

3. Crohn' s disease a diet of specific carbohydrates

This is an extremely restrictive solution, which is why maintaining a full diet often causes problems, but its effectiveness is very promising. Cohen et al. 2014). Burgis et al., 2016). However, further studies are needed because so far it has been conducted mainly in paediatric patients and in the case of underdeveloped disease. Cohen and al. 2014): meat (especially lean meat), poultry, eggs, fish, fresh fruits and vegetables, ?? prebiotic yogurt, hard cheese, also preserved in the home whole grains and peanut butter, ¢ honey, sugar-free cheese, fat-free cereal products, ✓ wheat flour, and vegetable flour.

4. Crohn's disease is a Mediterranean diet

More and more studies have demonstrated its positive effect in both prophylactic and therapeutic terms (E. Although this diet is quite effective in maintaining it works best in patients with low blood pressure, Crohn's disease (M. Jeszka, G. Marlow, et al. 2013). All patients interviewed with the Mediterranean diet found that it greatly improved the comfort of their lives (e.g. while the diet is fairly effective in maintenance, it also works best among patients with mild blood pressure and clinical symptoms.

5. Crohn's disease is a low FODMAP diet

Researchers have high hopes for its use in Crohn's disease as well. It is divided into two stages elimination period, during which FODMAP-rich products are removed from the menu, and reintroduction when they are slowly reintroduced. Observations in a group of 52 Crohn disease patients confirmed the relief of symptoms following a low-carbohydrate diet in 50% of the subjects. Elimination period is rarely associated with abdominal pain, stomach pain or bloating (S.L. Popanie, D.L., however, has had no evidence of a life-threatening constipation.

6. Crohn' s disease effective dietary interventions

In addition to the three dietary models above, there are a few less restrictive changes that also appear to have a beneficial effect on the course of the disease, and their introduction is not as complicated. Brown, S.D. Mullin 2011): Vegetarian diet, inclusion in the menu of dietary supplements and minerals containing essential nutrients after a prior selection of their blood levels.
