1. FOMO is the cause
A study of 13,300 European teenagers (1417 years old) found that 39.4% of participants spent at least 2 hours using social media while in school (K. Wójcik 2012). Long periods of time online resulted in dopamine stimulation, while its absence led to mood deterioration, among other things. Photos of holidays in exotic countries, professional achievements at work, or exciting social encounters with their owners, suggested that exposure to information from social media that seems boring and meaningless could lead to increased levels of social stress and anxiety among young people.2. FOMO syndrome is a summary
As with other addiction models, the problem is not the Internet itself, but the individual approach to using it. At a time when access to the Internet is unlimited and messengers and social media are used virtually every day, it is easy to get caught up in digital addiction. Perhaps putting more emphasis on prevention, such as education on the long-term effects of overuse of social media, is an effective way to minimize the incidence of FOMO among young people in the future. FOMO is a real problem that can affect anyone, although it definitely affects the younger generation.
