Everything you need to know about BMI

BMI is an acronym for one of the most popular and simplest indicators that allows you to measure body weight on your own.

1. BMI What is it?

Body Mass Index (BMI), also known as Quetelet II, is a convenient and fast method of calculating body mass index in scientific studies. It is used primarily to determine the presence of obesity. It can also be used to assess the risk of developing civilization diseases related to excess body weight, such as diabetes, stroke or cardiovascular disease. The popularity of BMI indicates, however, the frequency of its use in scientific research. Very often, the weight ratio is also used as one of the basic parameters for determining the strength of the body in terms of body weight and body weight in a particular pathology.

2. How do you calculate your BMI?

BMI is a very simple indicator to calculate. Actually, we're dealing here with a body mass index (in kilograms) and a body weight index raised to square one. As you can see, BMI can be calculated at home. In today's Internet age, it's very easy to find ready-made online calculators that not only calculate, but immediately give a specific value of the indicator. Some of them show indications that our body mass should be reduced to have a normal weight.

3. Standards for BMI

4. The basic classification is as follows:

below 18.5 underweight; from 18.5 to 24.99 normal weight; ?? from 25 increased grade II (so-called clinical advice); 16 to 16.99 weight loss; ¢ from 17 to 18.49 insufficient; ̇ from 18. 5 to 24.999 regular weight; 25 to 29.99 overweight; 30 to 34.99 grade I obesity; ‡ from 35 to 39.99 grade II obesity (so known as clinical counselling); ‡ 40 to 40 grade III obesity. In the first paragraph of this article, I mentioned that BMI alone is not recommended for children.

5. Does it even matter if it's a face bmi for women and men? Does it matter if you're a man or a woman?

The above pattern is universal for both women and men. The exceptions are, of course, the above-mentioned groups of people, namely pregnant women, sportspeople and children under 14 years of age. 6. A few words to summarize

As you can see, the above differences are not spectacular, so it's fair to say that gender doesn't have much of an impact on the calculation of values. Body Mass Index is a universal and easily accessible way to calculate your body mass index. The calculations themselves are very simple, and thanks to the calculators that are already common on the web, you could say that it is almost childishly simple. However, keep in mind that the results obtained using this method are not 100% reliable.
