Detoxification of the body what it is, how it works, diet

Detoxifying diets (also known as cleansing diets or detoxification diets) are very popular among both sexes. They are attributed to their effect on the elimination of toxins accumulated in the body and weight loss.

Table of Contents

1. Is it a detoxification of the organism at all?

Detoxification, or detox, is the concept of removing toxins from the body through various types of dietary interventions. In colored literature and on the Internet, you can easily find examples of many diets that have an effect on cleansing the body, as well as specific products or supplements that support this process. The only problem is that toxins are not always defined.

2. Does detoxification work?

Unfortunately, according to the British Dietetic Association, there is little evidence to support the effectiveness of cleansing diets. Most diets and products on the European market are not tested for their effects. However, if there are studies most often not carried out reliably. The body has been equipped with systems to eliminate unwanted substances. It is involved in detoxifying the body by taking the kidneys, lungs, digestive tract along with a number of enzymes.

3. Natural detoxification of the organism

Colander has not been studied in humans, but in lead-poisoned mice, the administration of 12 mg of lead 10 times a week for 25 days resulted in a reduction of lead content in the bones by up to 22%. The mechanism behind these properties of colander is unknown, but it is thought to be related to the content of citric acid.

4. Dr. Dąbrowskaya's diet of fruits and vegetables is detoxifying the body

The fruit-vegetarian diet of Dr. Eva Dąbrowska consists of a daily intake of no more than 800 calories. It excludes all products except low-carbohydrate vegetables and low-sugar fruits. The diet is based on the consumption of the above-mentioned raw products, in the form of sweeteners, juices and soups. What is the purpose of its use?

5. Natural ways to detoxify the liver

There are natural products that we can use to support our liver. One of the most popular recently is placental acne. Acne extract contains numerous compounds that have antioxidant, regenerative, and supportive effects on the removal of harmful substances from the body, such as drugs, alcohol, pesticides, moulds, etc. It has been shown to seal the cell membranes of hepatocytes, thus preventing the spread of the harmful compounds inside. It stimulates the liver to contact protein compounds and regenerate. It also shows anti-inflammatory effects.

6. How long is detoxification?

There has been little scientific research on the benefits of prolonged fasting (more than 48 hours). However, there is increasing talk about the positive health effects of periodic fasting, e.g. long-term fasting. The concept of intermittent fasting has various variations, called alternative day fasting or alternating daily fasting with food to your liking, limiting calorie intake to a certain amount of nutritious food during the day. These interventions have been shown to be safe for healthy adults and obese people.

7. Summary

Long-term, week-long or longer-term starvation is not recommended because the meaning and safety of their use are not proven. However, if you decide to take the challenge and follow e.g. the diet of Dr. Eva Dąbrowsk, consult your doctor. Taking immunosuppressive medicines or cancer are contraindications to this type of action.
