Coenzyme Q10 and its properties

Coenzyme Q10, or ubiquinone, is an organic compound responsible, among other things, for the transport of electrons in the respiratory chain.

Table of Contents

1. What is coenzyme Q10?

Coenzyme Q is an organic chemical compound, also called ubiquinone, found in the mitochondria and cells of plant and animal origin. The richest sources of coenzyme q10 include salmon, mackerel, sardines, and beef and liver.

2. Coenzyme Q10 is active

The main activities of coenzyme Q include: stimulating metabolism, reducing sugar levels, helping to treat cardiovascular problems (e.g. heart failure, hypertension), anti-oxidation (fighting free radicals and neutralizing their effects) slowing aging processes, supporting weight loss, stabilizing cell membranes, which prevents nutrient loss,?? increasing cells' resistance to the pathogenic action of the gut, promoting the regeneration of vitamin E.

3. Doseing

The daily dose of coenzyme Q10 ranges from 90 mg to 200 mg. It should be taken with food. Adverse reactions resulting from the use of the preparation are very rare and usually manifested by indigestion. People with diabetes should consult their doctor before starting the supplementation. The most common form of this preparation is tablets and aspirin pills. It is very often present as an ingredient in various cosmetics such as creams or gels. CoenzymeQ10 deficiency initially shows signs of chronic fatigue.

4. Opinion of the European Parliament and of the Council

An example of the effectiveness of coenzyme Q10 may be the results of a 2013 study by the New York Heart Association (NYHA). The experiment involved 420 patients with class III or IV heart muscle failure. The study material was divided into two groups: a placebo-controlled study (218 participants) and a trial where 300 mg Q10 was administered in three servings of 100 mg to 202 patients. The entire trial lasted 2 years.
