Chromium whether this element actually supports weight loss

Many people who want to control their body weight or reduce unnecessary kilograms turn to supplements for support. The most frequently recommended ingredient in this case is chromium, which is available in monopreparate form or as a component of multicomponent supplements.

1. Chrom properties

For many years, it was thought that chromium was essential for maintaining health (C. Agostoni et al., 2014). However, in 2014 EFSA published a position which denied this view. According to the findings of the European Food Safety Authority, there is insufficient evidence for the beneficial effects of the intake of chromosome by healthy people, and that it is not possible to establish an accurate adequate amount of chrome (C. Agostani et al. 2014). The view that it was essential was based on the erroneous basis of a study conducted by J. J. Heuggenheim on the dietary effects of sodium chloride on body fat intake, on the body fat content of people who are undergoing a complete improvement in body weight and body weight intake.

2. The effect of chromium supplementation on body weight

The use of chromium in overweight or obese people has been the subject of a number of scientific analyses. A meta-analysis of 19 scientific papers in 21 randomized clinical trials involving a total of 1316 people with weight problems has resulted in a significant change in body weight in 7 of them, a change in BMI in 8 of them and a significant reduction in body fat percentage in 2 of them.

3. Chromium supplementation and side effects

The most popular and safest isotope of chromium is the so-called trivalent chrome Cr (III). However, it is important to note that its excessive supplementation contributes to the reduction of the absorption of zinc and iron ions. This property may be the cause of endocrine disorders. Excessive amounts of cr (III) may also lead to impaired metabolism of calcium ions in the bones. However, cr (iii) is involved in fentone, whose products are reactive hydrolytic pigments.
