Basil medicinal product, varieties and uses

Basil (Ocimum basilicu) is a plant known throughout the world. Its flavor and aroma are most often associated with aromatic Italian cuisine. It is ideal as an additive to sauces, pizzas, pastes or other Mediterranean cuisine specialties. It has a characteristic sweet-sour flavor that gives food a unique aroma. Few of us know, however, that besides its unquestioned organoleptic properties, basil has a whole range of medicinal properties.

1. Basil is a variation

Basil is a very valuable spice plant native to the tropical regions of Asia. In Europe, basil appeared probably thanks to the military exploits of Alexander the Great. Currently, about 150 different species of the genus Ocimum are known, which evolved over time under various environmental conditions. The particular varieties of basil vary both in appearance and in the content of precious essential oils.

2. Basil is farming and farming

Basil cultivation is simple. The plant thrives well, especially in bright places, but it does not like to be exposed to the harsh sun. The optimal temperature of the crop is 25°C. It doesn't like cold, wind and dry soil. It grows best on moist and permeable soil. After supplying the basil seeds, it should be watered daily (in the first half of the day) with a small amount of water.

3. Basil active substances

Basil's main herbal ingredient is herbs (Basil herb) harvested during full flowering of plants. It contains 0.52.5% essential oils with exceptional health properties. These substances are water-insoluble, light, air-floating compounds, strongly stimulating the sense of smell. In addition to basil essential oil, the herb also contains saponins, alkaloids, steroids, terpenoids and flavonoids. Basil herbs contain a fairly significant amount of phenols and anthocyanins in their composition.

4. Basil Medicinal properties and use

The active ingredients found in the leaves of basil also play an important role in the digestive system of people with heart disease. A small addition to basil in the diet also increases saliva production and increases the amount of stomach juice. It also helps in motor stomach and intestinal disorders because it has irritating properties. Basil also boosts appetite.
