Appropriate calcium intake in the dairy-free diet

Drink milk, you will be great This is the slogan of a social campaign known to most Poles. No wonder, milk has always been associated with calcium, and calcium with bone growth and construction. However, these days, when many of us feel discomfort after consuming dairy products or simply suffer from intolerance to milk, it is often eliminated from the diet.

1. The effect of calcium on the body

Calcium is one of the major minerals in the human body. Its content is about 1.7%, or about 1.2 kg. Bone is its main storehouse, since about 99% of calcium is found in the intercellular bone tissue. The rest, or about 1%, is ionized in the intracellular and extracellular fluids. It plays an important role in human body fulfills its functions: building (bones, teeth, paws, hair), hormonal, motor blood (regulates muscle contraction). In addition, it is responsible for pregnancy over a period of 1,300 years after pregnancy or for the development of the body's normal growth control processes.

2. Alternative sources of calcium

The main symptoms of long-term insufficient calcium intake include: osteopenia, osteoporosis (especially dangerous in postmenopausal women), cavity, late tooth decay in children, bone deformity, spine and lower limb curvature. Undoubtedly the best and most absorbent source of calcium is milk and calcium products. This is due to the proper ratio of the calcium to phosphorus, as well as to the lactic acid content, which increases its absorption.
