A child on a vegetarian diet is something to remember

As a result, more and more children are being raised as vegetarians, but is it safe? The popularity of the vegetarian diet is growing, as evidenced by, among other things, greater availability of vegetarian products in stores, the frequent appearance of vegan regulations on social media and the public's promotion of this dietary model, as well as growing knowledge about the health effects of veganism.

1. Vegetarianism definition, species

Depending on the type of vegetarian diet, it is more or less restrictive. Reasons for choosing such a diet vary from health care, ecological and cultural aspects, to concern for the welfare of farm animals. Vegetarianism, also called a plant-based diet, is associated with the restriction or elimination of products of animal origin.

It rejects cooked foods, and the basis of the diet is only raw plant-based foods.

Sometimes indirect styles of nutrition are also distinguished: flexible vegetarianism (otherwise semi-vegetarianism; it allows the consumption of small amounts of meat, but the main source of protein is plant-based products such as seeds of leguminous plants) and sand vegetarians (for fish consumption). Frutarians do not accept destroying or breaking the plant for its consumption and do not use heat treatment above 40°C. A very restrictive form of vegetarianry consists of eating only products that have fallen naturally.

In Polish conditions, the exceptions are the Vitarian and Fructarian diets, which are difficult to properly balance to ensure the needs of the developing organism. Numerous studies have shown many health benefits in adult vegetarians (e.g. in the course of asthma, hypertension, type 2 diabetes or obesity). Additionally, experts from ESPGHAN (The European Society for Pediatric Genterology Hepatology and Nutrition) note that the use of a vegan diet without dietary supplementation and adequate nutrition can also pose a risk to the health of the child.

6. Deposition and balancing

The vegetarian diet should be balanced and diversified It should not simply exclude animal foods but should replace them appropriately with products derived from plant sources. This applies in particular to infants and young children. The following are the ingredients to which particular attention should be paid. In addition, more vegetables and fruits, whole grains, nuts and legumes, legumes and fibre are consumed. It should be remembered that the seeds of plant seeds consumed can lead to a deficiency of important organic ingredients in the diet, and that the growth of these organisms is poorly controlled by the young.

7. It's a protein

However, it is worth noting that plant protein may not meet the requirements for exogenous amino acids (i.e. those that the body cannot synthesize on its own). A lacto-vegetarian diet provides sufficient protein. In order for plant protein to be used appropriately, different groups of products, e.g. strawberries and cereal products, should be combined. In the case of more restrictive varieties of vegetarianism, good sources of this ingredient will be strawberry seeds (soya, pulp, juice, peas, beans), whole grain foods, and soybean products such as soybeans and yogurt or milk tofu.

8. It's the fat

Its source in the lacto-vegetarian diet is eggs and milk and its derivatives. The plant diet will include flaxseeds, chia seeds, hemp seeds and leafy green vegetables. It is also worth considering supplementing with tran or omega-3 fatty acids (vegan straw substitutes are available on the market for younger calves or drops). It is recommended that the diet of children up to 3 years old contain cholesterol that supports the proper development of the nervous system.

9. Mineral compounds

Vegetable products supplying calcium are, inter alia, maple, soybean, sunflower seeds, almonds, legumes or beans. Plant sources of iron include such products as seeds and sprouts, pulp vegetables, cereal products, green vegetables and dried fruit. Therefore, it is important to improve the absorption of this element. Symptoms that may indicate iron deficiency are: weakness and avoidance of apathy, susceptibility to infections, decreased concentration, baldness of the head.
